Condor Sevens

We had a team attend the Condor Sevens tournament over the weekend. The team has spent the last few weeks preparing under the guidance of coach Dion Berryman.

The team drew a very competitive pool of large boys' schools consisting of Napier Boys', Westlake Boys' and New Plymouth Boys' high schools.

Windy and wet conditions greeted the team on Saturday morning and the tournament started with a hard-fought victory over an impressive Napier team.

Unfortunately, in the second pool game New Plymouth's speed in open spaces proved very difficult to contain and our boys suffered their first loss.

The team showed good character to bounce back against with hard-fought victory over Westlake.

Unfortunately, due to the who-beat-who scenario, New Plymouth qualified first from the pool, meaning St Peter’s would face Wesley College in the Plate Quarter Final on Day 2.

Hot hard conditions on Sunday proved to be a positive as St Peter’s fitness wore down a powerful Wesley side to move into the semi-finals.

St Peter’s concluded the tournament with a loss to Hastings Boys' in the semi-final.

Cam Roigard and Paula Mahe were St Peter’s best for the weekend. Both were excellent on attack and resilient and committed on defence. Dawson Smith stood out as a Y10 and will no doubt make an impression in years to come.

The squad:

Sean Chenery
Lini Ekuasi
Devin Gregory
Guy Johnson
Paula Mahe
Bodie Mechell
Kakau Muli
Cam Roigard
Jaydon Rye
Dawson Smith
Christian Stewart
Justin Vela-Reynolds
