Rugby boys reach 50 caps

St Peter’s School rugby players Ollie Norris and Kaea Hongara have both reached their 50 appearances for the school at first XV level.

Kaea Hongara.

In their final year at the school they have been hugely influential to the success of the team, creating a legacy of hard work on and off the field.

Kaea had his debut for the 1st VX in 2014 as a year 10, as a fullback coming up from the Under 15s. He then reached 50 games while playing Fielding High School in the national championship win.

Ollie started as a year 11 with the 1st XV in 2015 as number 8, and reached his 50 games in the national qualifying final vs Western Heights this season.

There have been many highlights for the young men over their 50 games.

Mr Powell, Under 14s and 15s coach, was a big part of their progression onto first XV. Lifelong friendships have been cemented over the 50 games, and both students put their success down to coaches and rolemodels Mr Hohneck and Mr Douglas.

Both boys will continue to cross the white line together in 2018, playing for local club Hautapu while attending university and continuing their pathway to higher honours as members of the Waikato Rugby Academy.   Ollie has also been selected in the wider squad for the Chiefs Under 20s.

The school community wishes these boys the best of luck in their future and both hope to return to coach and pass on knowledge next season.
